Coat Swap

During early fall, whitetail deer swap their light and thin summer coats for heavy-duty winter ones. Deer grow a short and dense undercoat of wooly fur, then top it with stiff, hollow, long and dark guard hairs on top. This makes them largely unaffected by the winters we have here in NC.
