UPDATE: Twilight Paddles will begin again in May 2016. That’s when we will have enough light to make it home before dark.
The sun sets early when you are down on the river, surrounded by towering oak, sycamore, and pine trees. We’ve taken our most popular trip, a 1.5-hour canoe, kayak, or paddle board trip starting at the Falls Dam and ending 3 miles later at our private takeout at the base of the Capital Blvd bridge and moved it back to dusk.
It works like this:
You come park at the take out on Capital Blvd between Raleigh and Wake Forest. We give you a life vest, paddle, and a seat in the van for a 15 minute ride to the put in. We’ll put your canoes, kayaks, or stand up paddle boards in the water, give you a safety briefing/pep talk/ lecture about playing nice with others, and you float back to your car. When you are done, you check back in with us to let us know you survived and we take care of the kayaks. Easy peasy.

The shuttle leaves at 6pm. Approximately 90 minutes of paddling.
